We are surrounded by images of people who are considered to be beautiful. Seeing these images as the standard of beauty can easily kill our self-esteem, but we shouldn’t give them so much power.
Women cannot go a day without seeing another woman and subconsciously comparing ourselves to her. We see how people react to society’s standards of what a beautiful woman looks like. We start to believe that if we do not look the way these women look, then we cannot be seen as beautiful.
We need to realize that we all have something that makes us beautiful. This is exactly why you should love your body.
There is more than one kind of beauty.
Everyone is different, so everyone sees beauty differently. Just because you don’t have the body of a model does not mean that your body isn’t gorgeous as it is. You can be thin and beautiful, average weight and beautiful or overweight (or thick) and be beautiful as well.
None of us look exactly alike and we were not meant to all look alike. For models, having the same body type is part of their job. Their lives revolve around how they look. There is nothing wrong with that if they are happy with their lives being that way. Many models are beautiful and they should not be shamed for how they look either.
Most models are naturally small builds, and they work hard to have the bodies that they do. Having said this, that does not mean that we all have to follow in their footsteps. They have the bodies that they do because this is crucial to their careers. Most of us do not have careers that are focused around how we look.
Not all models have the same look, either. Plus-size model is a term that should not exist. It exists to separate women who are in the same industry but not the conventional model size in society’s view.
There shouldn’t be a distinction between models and plus-size models. The latter are still models and still beautiful. There is nothing wrong with a woman with curves being famous for rocking her body.
We all have insecurities.
It does not matter who you are, what you do or how you do it: we all have insecurities—even that seemingly perfect girl you know. She has things about herself that she wishes she could change.
Some thin women are just naturally so. There is no way around that. Their body structure makes them naturally thin. There is nothing wrong with that. Keep in mind that some thin people also have a very hard time gaining weight.
Not having curves (or the ‘right’ curves, I should say) also does not mean that you are not beautiful. There is something that is beautiful about you. You just have to look at yourself in a different light. Not having the biggest boobs or butt does not mean that you can’t be sexy. It does not mean you look like a twelve-year-old boy. It just means that you were meant to be thin.
Imperfections make you beautiful
To the women who are average weight or have some curves in both the ‘right’ and the ‘wrong’ places, you are still beautiful. You do not have to have a flat stomach to be beautiful.
There is nothing wrong with your body jiggling. Nothing. Bodies have fat in them. Fat jiggles. It happens. It is normal. It is not something to be ashamed of.
That there are ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ curves is disgusting. The stigma surrounding women who have bodies that jiggle more than those of models and the people who have normal ‘imperfections’ like cellulite and stretch marks is wrong. Making women feel like they are not beautiful because they do not look like photoshopped models is wrong.
We constantly see advertisements of women who look as if they are perfect. What we don’t see in those ads is everything that has been edited out. Every single picture you see of models is photoshopped in some way. None of the models are as thin as their pictures and their skin is not as clear and perfect as it may seem. We are being lied to about the idea of beauty.
Editing photos in advertisements gives men and women unrealistic ideas of what beauty is. Society makes it so that it is almost impossible to reach these standards.
Most of the time, there is absolutely nothing we can do to look like those edited versions of other people, so why try? You can’t make your body look like a photoshopped picture every second of the day, and you should not have to feel like you have to.
We should celebrate all types of beauty. There is something about all of us that is beautiful. Comparing ourselves to other body types that we will never have is going to severely damage our self-esteem.
Hating ourselves because we don’t have the body of our dreams isn’t going to help us either. There are so many people in the world who try to hurt our self-esteem. We shouldn’t be helping them. We should be there for ourselves and love who we are and what we look like.
