Use good face cleaners. Wash your face. Washing your face will make your skin look perfectly clean. This cleans your face well and gets rid of dead skin, blackheads, oil, and dirt. Make sure you don’t clean your face with aggressive cleaners or soaps. Use a cleanser that is complementary for your skin, for advice go to your dermatologist or ask for advice in a store where they sell beauty supplies. and remember, to apply flawless makeup, you don’t need to have a lot of makeup on. You just want it to accent your good features.

Find a good moisturizer. Apply a moisturizer. Pick a moisturizer that fits with your skin type:

    • Dry/sensitive skin: choose a thicker cream/ointment that locks moisture in.
    • Normal skin: choose cream moisturizers that are hydrating.
    • Oily/young skin: choose a water based lotion.

Use a good primer, any brand will do. Add a light foundation primer. Foundation primers are used to set make up (foundation) so that it lasts longer. You can find several in drug stores or specialized beauty stores.
  4. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 4
Choose your foundation. If you already have flawless skin (no freckles, blemishes, discoloration, or uneven tone) you should use a tinted moisturizer. This will add a bit of color without looking cake-like. If you want to cover a bit more, use a foundation. This is one product that you should splurge on. To get the right shade apply some near your cheek in natural daylight and make sure to test a bunch of them to find the right one for you. Ask one of the professionals in the store to help you find the right color.

    • Apply the foundation. To get your skin dewy and radiant use an illuminator. Just mix a pea-sized amount of illuminator with your foundation and you’ll get glowing skin. Apply the foundation with a foundation brush if you have one or use your fingers. Some people like using brushes, but you may prefer fingers because it’s easier, just remember to wash your hands before. Put a bit of foundation on the back of your hand, dab a bit of foundation onto your fingers and smooth it onto your face. Make sure to get your jawline, ears and around your eyes and down your neck, to blend it into your skin. (If you use a brush, apply in a circular motion, and always have clean brushes.) Remember: foundation is meant to even out your skin tone. Don’t use it to add color or completely cover blemishes.
  5. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 5
Buy a good concealer. Search for a concealer close to your skin tone, making sure you don’t choose one that is too dark or too light. If you can’t tell, ask for advice to ensure you get the right color.

    • Apply the concealer on any zits or redness on your skin , use a small brush to stipple it on and dab it with your fingers to blend it in.
    • Conceal any dark circles under your eye by applying the concealer in a triangle shape. Blend the outer corners of the triangle with your fingers. Don’t forget to conceal the inner corners of your eyes as they are generally darker than the rest of your eyes.
  6. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 6
Set the concealer with setting powder. Choose a loose (mineral) powder and dab it on the concealed parts of your face with a stippling brush.
  7. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 7
Apply a bronzer and/or blush. Choose a bronzer that isn’t too dark for your skin color otherwise you will end up looking like a clown. Use an angled, hard brush or a stippling brush to apply the bronzer, work in a cross on your face (forehead, nose and cheeks). To make your face look slimmer apply the bronzer right under the apples on your cheeks, to find the apples smile and apply the bronzer in the hollow of your cheeks.

    • Find a blush that suits your skin tone and apply it on the apples of your cheeks.
    • To prevent your face becoming shiny you can use oil blotting sheets. You can find them in any drugstore or store where they sell beauty products. They’re cheap, reduce shine, and don’t disturb makeup. Bring these along with you.
  8. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 8
Apply eye makeup. To make your eyeshadow last, apply an eye shadow primer first. For natural eye looks choose a natural color.

    • Curl your lashes. Curl your eyes for about 15 seconds on each side.
    • Use an eyelash extender. The fibers from this connect and make lashes much longer.
    • Apply a waterproof mascara. Wait for each coat to dry before applying another to avoid clumps.
    • Apply eyeliner. Liquid or pencil, top or bottom, eyeliner can be applied in many ways and looks good in different ways depending on the eye shape, color, and size. You’ll really just have to experiment with this.
      • Color your brows if they aren’t even with an eyebrow powder, choose a color that is close to your eyebrow color. Apply a brow gel to keep your eyebrows in place.
  9. Image titled Do Your Makeup Flawlessly Step 9
Moisturize your lips by applying chapstick. Use a lip primer to fill up any creases and apply a lip liner, followed by applying a lipstick in the same color as the lip liner and finish with a gloss if you want a glossy look.

How to Apply Makeup for Beginners

Makeup may do magical things, but it doesn’t have to be a mystery. Applying a basic, natural look doesn’t require a lot of skill or tools. You can do lots of the blending with your fingertips, and choose to leave out certain products if they don’t appeal to you. So have no fear: enjoy the process and your fresh, glowing face!

Laying the Groundwork

  1. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 1
Start with clean skin. Wash with a gentle cleanser or simply use a toner to wipe away any impurities from your skin.
  2. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 2
Apply a light moisturizer. This will keep your skin from getting too oily during the day, and will help moisturize any dry patches on your skin.

    • Wait five minutes before putting on foundation (see the next step) so that the moisturizer can sink in.[1]
  3. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 3
Dab on a tinted moisturizer or a light foundation to your skin. Apply just a few spots with your fingers to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, then blend with fingers or a foundation brush, working the spots outwards from the center in all directions.

    • If you want more coverage, you can use a makeup sponge to apply, using the same blending technique.
  4. Image titled Choose a Revlon Foundation Step 7
Put a little concealer under the eyes. Use a small pointed brush to dot a bit where under-eye circles are darkest, usually at the inner and outer corners of the eye. Add a speck to other blemishes that aren’t covered by the foundation and blend into the skin.

    • There’s a little controversy about whether a concealer should be the same shade as your skin or ever-so-slightly lighter; however, it should never be lighter than one shade away from your natural tone. Look for something as close as you can find to your skin tone and err on the lighter side if need be.[2][3]
  5. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 5
Set the concealer and moisturizer with a translucent powder. Apply it to your face, ideally using a velvet-y powder puff (as opposed to a powder brush, as that leaves a lot of loose powder) in a pressing motion. Use a powder brush to flick off any excess. If you are using a powder brush to apply, tap off the excess powder before applying to your face in circular motions. [4]

Putting on Your Eyes

  1. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 6
Apply an eyeshadow of your choice to your eyelid. For beginners, try a single neutral shade like taupe or aubergine. Use a rounded shadow brush or your finger and make quick, short swipes across the lid, working your way up to the brow bone.[5]

    • The shadow should go from your lash line to just beyond the inner crease. From there it fades upward toward the bone.
    • Set with a thin dusting of translucent powder.[6]
    • If you’re using a brush, tap it lightly on the side of the eyeshadow case to remove any excess.[7]
  2. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 7
Apply eyeliner. Use a black or brown pencil and apply along the rim of your upper lash line in short strokes.

    • Lift your upper lid with one hand and look down into a mirror as you apply with your other hand.[8]
    • Eyeliner is one of the areas that you can really experiment with as you become more confident applying makeup. Factors like color, texture, and line application can have a big impact on the appearance of your peepers. Play around!
  3. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 8
Curl your lashes. Place a lash curler at the base of your upper eyelashes (along the lid) and press for five seconds.
  4. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 9
After this, apply mascara. Apply to the upper and lower lashes with the tip of the wand oriented towards the outer corner of your eye. One coat should suffice for this look.

Adding Cheek and Lip Color

  1. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 10
Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Smile as you do this so you can clearly see where the apples are. Dab on the blush and blend upwards towards your temples.

    • Try a cream blush for a natural glow that’s easy to blend in.[9]
    • If you opt for powder blush, use a brush that’s fluffy yet dense. Dust translucent powder over it to blend the edges.[10]
  2. Image titled Apply Makeup for Beginners Step 11
Apply lipstick or lip gloss. Pucker your lips like you’re about to plant a kiss and dab the lip color to the center of your upper and lower lip. This first application can be straight from the tube; then, use your fingers to blend outwards, adding color with your fingertips as needed.

    • If your lips are chapped, prep them before putting on lip color. Gently buff them with a warm, damp washcloth and put on a light layer of lip balm. Let the balm absorb before moving on to lipstick or gloss.[11]
    • For beginners, the lips are a great opportunity to add color and vary your makeup regime without having to fuss over application technique, etc. You can work with anything from neutral, barely-there gloss to creamy, fire-engine red.

Check yourself in bright light – daylight if possible – to make sure everything is blended and beautiful. You’re done!

7 Makeup DOs And DON’Ts for Healthy Skin

Makeup was created to help women glam up any look. In the right hands, makeup can help paint the most beautiful face and transform even the dullest skin, but there are still things to avoid.

If you wear makeup every day, I bet you’ve scoured the internet for blogs and websites offering makeup tips. While some of them prove helpful, you may find that some can cause more harm than good—and that’s something you want to avoid.

You put on makeup to look beautiful. Skin that is damaged because of improper use of makeup is never pretty, so to maintain beautiful skin while enjoying the benefits of makeup, here are the dos and don’ts to live by.

Makeup DOs

1. DO prep the skin on your face.

Before you apply foundation or any makeup, prep your skin to ensure that it is clean and not greasy. Use moisturizer first to give your face that smooth feeling. If you have oily skin, use a moisturizer that helps to control the oil. This way, when you apply makeup, you won’t have a hard time making it work since you’ve already addressed your skin issues.

2. DO use a foundation that matches your skin tone perfectly.

How do you know what the best foundation for your skin type is? Trial and error! Go to a department store’s makeup section and try the foundation on your face. You don’t want to purchase one without even being sure that’s it’s the foundation that will best work on your skin, right?

3. DO apply foundation before the concealer.

Your concealer is wasted when you apply it to your blemishes, if any, and under your eyes before applying foundation.

So, to save you money and the effort of having to put it again, put on your foundation first. Another benefit is you don’t over-apply the concealer if you’ve already applied the foundation.

4. DO use colors that complement each other.

Your lipstick and blush should be the same shade within your look. If you choose a pink lipstick then apply a pinkish blush for consistency.

5. DO match your blush to your skin tone.

If you have fair skin, use blush in lighter shades like rose and pale pink. If you have medium to dark skin, choose plum, deep berry or mahogany shades for a more flattering look.

6. DO use brushes designed by professionals.

Some makeup kits come with preselected brushes. While they may be useful in the beginning, they don’t often last, especially if you use them regularly. Invest in top quality brushes so that you can say hello to more defined and beautiful makeup applications.

7. DO double check your look in a magnifying mirror.

Some women, especially those who wear glasses, may find it a challenge to see if the overall look is not the way it is supposed to be.

So, whether you wear specs or not, buy yourself a handy magnifying mirror so that you can see double check and correct anything that needs fixing on your overall look!

Makeup DON’Ts

1. DON’T forget about your eyebrows.

Well-groomed brows can help to define your eyes and improve your overall look. Make sure you maintain your eyebrows; if you think you can’t do it on your own, consult a professional who can help you to achieve the ideal shape. You’ll see that it’s worth it.

2. DON’T plump up those lips.

We all want full lips like Angelina Jolie’s so we use lip liner to make our lips appear fuller. This can be tricky and does not work for some. If in doubt, stick with lipstick, which is enough to pull off most looks. Or look for makeup-free, natural way to make your lips look bigger.

3. DON’T wear black eyeliner during the day.

Yes, you think you can rock black eyeliner at any time, but the truth is that it’s kind of harsh during the day. Opt for a brown eyeliner instead and save the black one for the next girls’ night out.

4. DON’T skip the lipstick.

You can forget about mascara and maybe eye shadow some days, but never forget to apply a pop of color to your lips. You may know it but lipstick is usually enough to polish your overall look. You just have to pick the color that works best for your outfit and skin type.

5. DON’T contour your face.

Who wouldn’t love chiseled-looking cheekbones? However, contouring your face can be a bit tricky, especially if you’re not naturally gifted at it. It can go all kinds of wrong and do you no good. This is something best left to makeup professionals.

6. DON’T wear glitter.

Glitter is fantastic—except when it’s makeup we’re talking about! It moves from one area of your face to another and never looks good.

7. DON’T sleep with your makeup on.

Yes, I know Kim Kardashian once said that she breaks this number one beauty rule because she wants to make sure Kanye West only sees her with makeup on, but this is an absolute no-no. Remove your makeup before you go to sleep so that your skin can breathe and rest while you do, too.

Now that you know the dos and don’ts about makeup, be sure to live by them to achieve the vibrant, healthy, younger looking skin you desire.
